Hyperhidrosis - Excessive Perspiration

Excessive perspiration can be a real problem. For some people even prescription strength anti-perspirants will not control symptoms. Botox injections can be a useful option in axillary, or underarm, perspiration. This will normally control symptoms for up to three months at a time. However injection into the palms to control palmar, or hand, sweating is sometimes too painful.


Thorascopic sympathectomy
Thorascopic sympathectomy is a surgical treatment which permanently controls excessive underarm and palm perspiration.

Side-effects
In about a third of patients compensatory sweating can develop over the chest and back. Despite this the vast majority of patients undergoing treatment remain satisfied with their surgery and decision to undergo this treatment.

Complications

  • Horner's syndrome
  • Pneumothorax

Recovery
Full recovery to normal activity usually takes just a few days.
